So I finally finished my turtle sculpture! I know it's not that big a deal for...well you know... anyone else but me, but it was really nice to sculpt again. The turtle is made entirely out of surf wax. The darker areas on the fins and shell are different types of cold water wax that I stripped off a board that came back from California. Everything else is either base coat or tropical "sticky bumps." I did cheat a little with the eyes by blackening it with a sharpy, but how disturbing would it be if I actually had wax that was a deep black? The idea was that I would sculpt an animal that I see while surfing. I guess it's either a whale or seal up next. Oh yeah, I totally saw a whale on Monday while surfing out at Lani's!

It seems to me that Kimo and a certain killer seal were conspiring against you. Maybe I'll sculpt a killer a seal next, but it will have Kimo's face, and it will be laughing...

wow. you know spencer, when you said you were sculpting a turtle, i thought it would be like that "whale"/"dolphin" (wasn't it just a dorsal fin?) you sculpted out of that white stone a while ago. and when you said "used surf wax", i was thinking ewww.

but wow. very impressive.
